Part 7 – Publishing your site, Deleting a Post, Creating a Page

In the previous topic while creating your first post and later while publishing it, your site has also been published. Let’s refine it a bit further.

1.   Go to a new tab and enter the name of your domain (URL, for e.g www.learntechwritingfast.com). If it doesn’t look the way you thought it would (it doesn’t have your Hello World! post). Don’t panic.

2.   Click on Reading from the Settings menu on your WordPress dashboard. The webpage refreshes to display additional fields and buttons. Scroll down till you see the following.

3.   Ensure the Your latest posts radio button is selected.

4.   Click Save Changes.

5.   Refresh the tab that was displaying your site and it should now display your “Hello World!” post.

Note:  You can also fix this using the Theme Customizer we visited earlier. There is an earlier Hello World! post too. We’ll get rid of it in a moment.

6.   Click on All Posts from the Posts menu on the panel on the left of your WordPress dashboard.

The webpage refreshes to display the posts on your website.

7.   Scroll the page till you find the Hello World! posts. The one you published is under the category News while the other to be deleted is “Uncategorized”. It also has a dummy comment post.

8.   Hover your mouse on the duplicate Hello World! post and the buttons to delete the post are displayed.

9.   Click on Trash and the post is deleted.

10.  Refresh the tab displaying your website and the changes are reflected.

Now let’s remove that Coming Soon indication on your dashboard.

11.   Look for the link on your dashboard messages.

12.  Click the launch your site link. A Bluehost webpage opens in a new tab and the following message is displayed. Scroll the page if you need to.

13.  Click Launch your site. The following message is displayed. The Coming Soon message is removed.

Note:  Probably you’re wondering if your website will look like mine. It will I promise. We are just getting started.  But before that just a little more on creating a page which is similar to creating a post.

14.  Click on Add New from the Pages menu on the panel on the left of your WordPress dashboard.

The webpage refreshes to display fields and controls to create a page. This is very similar to what you learnt while creating and publishing a Post.

15.  Follow the instructions in creating a Post to create and publish your Page. An example of a page is the About Page.
